Dr Lynn Bedford outlined her proposal for a PhD Studentship to investigate the role of microglia in the inflammation of nervous tissue which occurs as part of the body’s immune response to damage caused by diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Microglia are migratory cells which help to dispose of dead cells and harmful waste products. This work will build on exciting studies elsewhere. It will benefit from specialist input and make use of the latest analytical techniques. It was agreed that the NSG will provide £33,600 towards the cost of the project over the next 3 years.
